It's easier to set the ingame max fps to 60 in the game menu than switching around in nvidia control panel. I'm trying to find a good decent mic for gaming. Clip on or desktop. I am looking for new headphones to replace my Astro A40s that are starting to show their age.
But I was also looking at ATH-M50x, but I have one question, is there a difference between closed headphones with noise canceling vs without noise canceling, as I have worn noise canceling before and they just sort of gave me a headache.
I am going to be out at some stores in a few days, but I don't know of any stores that really have Audio Technica out for display that people can try, but If I do see some, at best buy or something, I will try them out and see.
Anyone have any suggestions otherwise? I haven't been doing much gaming lately so Just straight up high quality audio in the range listed above. No microphone really needed, I can pick up a Mod Mic 4.
Read above if you wan't to know the specifics of what I am looking for. There are the following cables that are outside my PC, all which I want to manage neatly so that it doesn't look bad and so that they don't mix or tie or pull:.
Making it 19 cables in total outside my PC, excluding the extra cable 20 in total I will have at the end of the week when I buy the Razer Tartarus. What do I do to manage these? How can I remove the clutter?
Is the k compatible with standard ddr3 memory? I'm looking at our having this Motherboard for the k, will normal ddr3 work fine? Dual monitors if you have the space. It is a nice advantage to be able to multitask with 2 screens.
True, id like to have monitoring software while i game or just a youtube vid or plex plying. How do you sort the audio issue though, wont it be game n video audio all jumbled up unless you turn one down. Well there are software and even hardwaresolutions that tackle that problem.
Most simple would be the windows sound mixer. Most do post-processing, which causes this. They should usually come with a Gaming mode that skips that though. Don't bother with the 2GB one even at that res if you even upgrade then you're pretty screwed.
You can easily run p with 2gb of vram. If you want higher resolutions you need more vram, but the card won't be able to do it. How do you like it? Thinking about picking it up to replace one of my old monitors. It's a nice budget IPS panel, although you could go for the model for thinner bezels at around the same price.
Is there a way for me to emulate a trackball using the trackpad on my laptop? I want to be able to have the cursor move while my finger isn't touching the trackpad so that I can do lovely little flicks and make the cursor fly across the screen.
At stock speeds that system should consume no more than w at full load so you have plenty of room for overclocking. The tool I used: Also worth to mention is badlands 2 which has a level editor by now, the talos principle, Trine 2 which you should have already on your shield and skyforce which may be a bit annoying to play because the shields touchscreen lag is so bad just like the audio I was looking for generally what types of games?
When and where you find it convenient to use? I have both also. I use the tablet to watch anime or netflix in bed, and then bring it on vacations to try to game stream from home if the internet allows.
For instance, on my vacation this year, the internet there was garbage so i couldnt game stream. Luckily i brought my 4tb hdd loaded with movies and shows. Then i used the controller to control it and the ES File explorer to browse and select what movie to watch.
The tablet was plenty capable for p movies, and if charged will also last the full movie length since theres only one usb port and we're using it for the external hdd, you cant charge it at the same time. If i ever wanted to, i could also use the tablet to game stream to the living room or something my main TV is literally a foot above my desktop so i just use that, but is still a valid use case for people with their desktops isolated from the TV and couch they want to relax on.
Trying to upgrade my 3 year old laptop on a budget. A new SSD with a fresh windows install and new thermal paste. Takes about 10 years for RAM to fully degrade, it's fine unless it's like years old right now. Open up your laptop first!
It may not even have an open slot, as in there could already be 2 x 2GB sticks in there, so if you get a 4GB stick you'll have to replace one which leaves u with 6GB. Or there isn't even an extra slot available.
I have already opened it up and there is only 1 4GB stick, I was just asking because I didn't know whether there would be any issues with having RAM of significantly different ages in a system. I just finished my very very first build last night.
Everything is running perfectly. What key drivers and software should I download? Do you mean you haven't yet installed any drivers and are just using the inbuilt Windows drivers? Classic Shell Pro for a classic windows feel: CCLeaner, for cleaning the place up a bit: It can also be used as an in-game monitor for FPS as well and some light recording.
You need to download graphics drivers. My little sister is trying to convince my parents to buy a prebuilt for that price. New Batman for worst, and even though it's a poor game Battlefront seems to run extremely well on a wide variety of systems.
Best optimization I can think of this year has to go to Mad Max. It can run on a huge variety of hardware and has an insane render distance, all while maintaining great performance. Runner-up would be Battlefront since that runs on a lot of hardware as well but it's not open world like Mad Max.
Do I need to have played the previous Bioshock games before I play Bioshock infinite? I got it for free a while ago from the golden joystick thing, haven't got around to playing it yet. Gorgeous game and one of the best endings I've played to date.
Haven't played the previous games, but they are needed for some of the stuff in the Burial at Sea add-ons. Check what a x would cost. Usually its cheaper and a tiny bit better than the I second that, for a low budget, used will get you more horsepower.
But the hardware will be older, thus not supporting the latest software improvements dx12, low vram, I am looking to get a new SSD and I want to know if there's any reliable pieces of cloning software available for free or under 10 USD if paid one is any better.
If you're interested it's available here. My CPU full load is 50c at stock 3. I'm pretty sure i put the thermal paste right, pea size method. Am I able to use an Xbox controller on my pc that has windows 10? I have a wireless controller with a plug and play kit that I plugged into a USB port.
Windows auto detected it and installed a driver but the ring of lights on the controller just keeps flashing green and not responding to anything. The Plug-and-Play kit unfortunately only works as a charger in Windows.
I'm unsure if there's a way to make it function as a way of using your controller but I've never found one. This is the kind of thing you're looking for. Thank you, after I posted I did a bit more research and it turns out that even with plug and play the pc still treats the controller as wireless despite the wired connection.
I went and picked up a wired controller while I was out. I've never really done much pc gaming despite knowing it's better overall than consoles. I'm hoping to transition into a pc gamer and I think being able to play with a familiar controller will help get me comfortable.
I still play most of my games with the Xbox controller. There aren't many games that don't have incredibly good controller support so don't feel like it's a crutch to keep playing with it. I restart the computer each time I see it, but it never lasts.
Did I download malware or something? Chrome can use an insane amount of resources if you have multiple tabs open. Task manager should be able to help you figure out what is causing it. I'm thinking it's chrome now I have 14 tabs open in 3 windows, is that too many for 8gb?.
There's a whole bunch of other processes going on in resource monitor, however. Well I am by no means an expert on Chrome since I use Firefox, but as far as I know each tab in Chrome is treated as a separate process.
This makes it so that if a tab crashes it doesn't crash the whole browser like it would in Firefox. On the other hand it uses a lot more memory. Also it really depends on what you have open in those tabs.
If you open task manager and look at the detailed view or what ever it is called you can see the detailed amounts of resources used by each program. I'm definitely seeing that. Is chrome supposed to eat up so much where I should only have one tab open at a time?
I'm not exactly sure. There's some AMD drivers, cortana, chrome and some of my other app's processes Though most aren't doing more than 6. It should look something like this http: I just built a new pc and i installed linux on it because i dont feel like paying for windows.
When i went on the mobo website for drivers there werent any for linux. Btw i am using integrated graphics until i get the money for a gpu. Do you need to get drivers for linux? Usually, drivers are available as packages in the repository of your distribution.
There is more infos about the Google public DNS https: I've no interest in 4k gaming anytime soon and I'm only going to be using a single monitor, I'm looking for a card to see me through the next few years.
Is this a viable substitute? I'm doing the PC exterminator build and the power supply is unavailable for weeks, whilst this is at Best Buy that I can go pick up. Any possible ideas for me to get as a viable substitute? Image of part that is close to what I'm getting http: Ok well I'm going to Best Buy very soon to get one because I'm impatient, so any brands that are recommended?
And does it matter if it is modular? Modular just means unused cables can be removed. It'll make the inside of your case look better but isn't needed. If so, how much of an improvement are we looking at? Does anybody know of any well priced laptops in the UK?
This seems to be the best I can find. Are there any better alternatives? I wouldn't mind an M. Looking to branch out into more games and feel a controller for my pc would be a good investment. I don't know where to start. Any recommendations for controllers?
I have the wireless dongle so it detects the controller but it doesn't work with this game. I just picked up dead space one, but for some reason I can't get it play sith vsync on without dropping to 30 fps.
I also get major input lag. Yeah but when I turn Vsync off, I get the worst screen tearing ever. Lighting gets all messed up whenever the camera has to move fast through these action scenes. I think it is the crimson drivers to be honest.
I tried forcing Vsync through the crimson profile system and leaving vsync off in game, but i still get some major screen tearing. Does anyone have any suggestions on why this maybe happening?
I have the Corsair D case - Does anyone with experience with this case have any recommendations to decrease the noise of hard drive humming? How do we know when an item on sale will end?
I was looking at Shadows of Mordor but I don't know if that has a standard discount or a daily one. Does it come with a screen protector on it? When the screen is white it has a filmy look to it, as if it did have a screen protector.
But when I look along the edges to find one I cannot tell. What should I look for in a wireless adaptor? Simply put, don't buy from PC world. It's only for the really lazy, their not even cheap. I'd argue a better statement is don't buy from PC World unless you understand the technology.
As a software guy who had a laptop die on me and needed a replacement within an hour it was my only choice on the last machine I bought. There were several good machines at reasonable prices that I could walk out with there and then.
The sales guys backed off as soon as they realised I knew more than they did. Meanwhile if you don't have a clue avoid the place like wildfire. Either find someone tech savy to advise you or pay a premium for someone that's not going to try and rip you off.
For anyone who doesnt understand screen technology you should treat this like you would a developer marketing a house on the basis of "bigger bricks". My PC died 2 days before my dissertation waa due and of course I'd only just started writing it.
Went there n got a budget peice of crap within the hour. Useful for times like that but otherwise I'll always build my own. That said it's not like pc world products are all loaded with asbestos or something, there fine if you do a bit of research beforehand and find a good price, just don't expect informed impartial advice from staff.
I got one from the local Asda several years ago. It was adequate for what I wanted it for, once I'd wiped the proprietary OS from it; it largely remains so even now. No nvidia junk, no weird model-specific hardware, all works fine with open-source software.
What does that even mean? Any laptop will work with open-source software My old Thinkpad wouldn't boot Ubuntu without correct graphics drivers - once it got past the initial kernel stuff it would freeze with graphical glitches.
I had to use the shell to install graphic drivers over an ethernet cable; not an easy experience. I do not work for dell btw! Personally I do all my PC shopping on scan. Great value, no bloatware although i usually get blank and build image myself.
I have literally no idea how this hasn't been posted yet, but https: Got mine cheap from Amazon. Turned up with four stickers on it making it's journey from cutting edge to end of line clearance to freebie with phone subscription to third party warehouse clearance seller.
You can customise the spec to whatever you want or need. Thier support was great too. As much as people like to shit on dell, they actually do make some pretty decent laptops for the price, and when they run discounts they're almost always the best price.
Meh, I had 2 faulty motherboards from them so went to PC planet. Did a complete build, had it 3 months then that motherboard died. Having said that they picked it up, fixed it and returned in within a week, so not bad.
Just buy one as a trail then get another ten if you're satisfied. You won't even have to call tech support if your laptop breaks - much better than PC World. They have a 30 day return policy on everything, so just to find one with good review in your budget, and if it turns out not to be right for you, send it back.
I bought mine from pcspecialist. That laptop has lasted me since and is still faster than most of my mate's new ones. There is so much bloatware on laptops that you buy from big companies such as PC world or Curries, that you're basically buying a laptop with a bunch of viruses on.
I used to use EBuyer in the UK, bought a couple of laptops and tons of desktop components from them when I lived in the UK up until about 5 years ago. That one lasted around 4 years. It makes a slight whirring noise every so often, I assume the fan is catching on something, but apart from that it has done fantastically well for the price.
If you do consider the refurb store, I suggest waiting until a little after Xmas as a load of people will be taking things back. Showroom, find the right one in a bricks and mortar store then buy online. The people that use pcworld tend to be the ones that don't know how to format a harddrive, install an OS or clean out the crap, hence why I get roped into salvaging shit.
They've got a monopoly. I can't get a laptop from anywhere else because it's very important I test the keyboard makes or breaks a purchase for me. I loath PC world but there is no where else I can go for that experience. I work at a small independent IT shop, I can just imagine they take laptops that already come with a bunch of crap Lenovo, I am talking about you, but others do it too, and then they add their own crap ontop of that as well.
Its got bad enough with some laptops we have started just reinstalling windows 10 from the copy the manufacturer puts on it with our own clean copy, put chrome on it, configure and hand over to customer. Last two included so this actually gets through to customers, and class action suits can be made.
I reported an issue I had with a store near me - I reserved a product online and when I got there they hadn't actually reserved and sold it just 5 minutes prior to me walking in. Spoke with the manager and he basically said 'I'm sorry, but when you reserve something online it's basically just confirming we have stock.
People can still come in and buy it in the meantime. I ended up just getting what I needed from Prime Now. Actually in this circumstance he may actually have some success. If what the OP is reporting is really happening then these members of staff are actually committing a fraud against PCWorld itself.
Good luck getting through to head office haha, I had a problem with a Laptop from Curry's and couldn't wait for a repair. Tried to contact head office on several occasions, just to get read some script by a supposed "manager".
Tell them a store is putting through dodgy business sales and they'll sort it out. It's not trying to get after sales support. Tell them that and they'll still read a script to you - I've been through all channels with them.
They don't subscribe to ADR, they have next to no complaints procedure beside responding with canned answers on Twitter. Someone else in this thread stated as much, they had to send letters and threaten chargeback and small claims before Dixon's group would even respond.
Curry's staff could literally spit in your face and head office would still try and sell you knowhow support when you call up to complain. Twitter - call them out publicly. Not an expert but this sounds like VAT fraud to me. I think that a B2B sale wouldn't be charged VAT as it's a business expense, but a customer sale would.
That's dodgy stuff that's not going to be sanctioned by head office. It's a desperate store trying to hit business sales targets. Head office must know. This happened to me, except I did not get the discount - they just ran it through as a b2b sale and made up some stuff when I queried why it said "PC World business" on the invoice.
I complained in writing to the store manager. Complained in writing to head office. Having worked in a retail company I can say you'd be surprised at the stuff the head office won't know is going on until it's gone on for a while.
Basically when one person complains it will be seen as an isolated incident and possible the customer had misunderstood the situation e. That the transaction was simply processed incorrectly due to a misunderstanding.
It takes a steady stream of complaints to establish that its going on. This is partly because customers are a bad measure of what your staff are doing wrong, as many customers complain about things that didn't happen, or misunderstand what did happen.
This is also partly because though you can't just accuse people of doing unethical rule breaking stuff without evidence. If the Director for Customer Service goes to the Chief Operating Officer saying stores are engaging in unethical practices based off one or two complaints, the Regional Sales Director will say it was a misunderstanding and a one off incident which they will have been told by their Area Manager, who may be aware of the practice or may just trust the Store Manager's word.
The problem is of course for every customer that complains there are at least two who don't, so by the time you have 20 complaints for example, 60 people have been effected at least. I used to work in PC World back in the day and dodgy practices were essential, just not explicitly stated.
Any store that wasn't doing some sort of dodgy shit wouldn't be hitting targets and would be in bother for it. I'm pretty sure it is actually, this is not the first time I've heard people talking about this.
I'm sure someone has reported it on this subreddit before although that could have been other PC World bastardry. After it came back from the repair centre, I had the joy of finding it would no longer turn on at all.
We took it in and complained, sent it back to the repair centre but claimed water damage and wouldn't touch it. Should try and claim a PC built by them is faulty, I'm sure they'll find something that's faulty and charge for repairs.
I don't want this to be a commentary on anything about the business other than this particularly dodgy practice, but yes tbh they are the worst, but sometimes the only option if you NEED IT NOW and they have stock.
I think in some respects even Brighthouse are better. The product is the loan, not extra nonsense on top. They are both robbing fuckers though. On a side note, PC Decrapifier is an alright bit of kit to have if you don't want to reformat everything.
I love pcdecrapifier so much that I keep it on a separate Dropbox folder just incase I ever need it on any device. TBH I once brought a laptop from PCW not by choice since my old laptop got totatlled when a water main burst in the flat above and the insurance only would give me a PCW gift card to replace it.
Booted it up and it was full of crap, AV I have never heard of, something called "knowhow" that kept on nagging me to sign up for "free 1GB storage" I already get 8GB through office so nope. It was just easier to burn a windows DVD and wipe it all.
It's fine but yeah I reformatted it immediately, I don't want nagged for a 30 day trial to some crappy AV package. CCleaner is the industry standard for this sort of thing. Not saying it's better than Decrapifier never used it, can't compare but it's an alternative I can vouch for.
Some of their products are priced well, but only the cash price. The price after finance is ridiculous. If you could pay it off after a week then it might be worth buying through them. GAME tried to sell my brother disk insurance, on a digital download.
Perhaps something to watch out for if you are buying games over the holiday. Was a PC game code in a case, I pointed this out, and the cashier realised what they were trying to sell. Might of just been one unattentive staff member who reflexively tries to sell insurance that might of been useful back before everyone realised how to store disks properly.
Think they will try to flog anything if it makes a few quid, sure they do the polishing for free when you take it out as well! Could imagine it comes in handy with young kids as my kids cd's are horrendous.
But also just don't go there, go online or to smaller stores to purchase tablets and computing goods. Although the care packages on white goods and ovens were good when I was there. As an ex-Curry's employee this is mostly correct unless anything has changed recently they have rebranded their business department.
Essentially the system is a CRM for engaging business customers track sales, store information about the company, set reminders to make sales calls etc Where the consumer rights can become an issue is with white goods, for example buying a washing machine for a launderette would imply heavier usage than for a home, and therefore can create issues where the machine is not being used as intended, potentially voiding your rights.
It's worth mentioning, the regular till system can still print out a VAT receipt in fact a regular receipt will still have the VAT number, however sales processed this way do not go towards the stores B2B sales targets and will not create an account in their CRM, which is why the other system is used.
In my 3 years of working at Curry's I've never seen a customers right affected by whether the sale went through the business system or the regular one, simply because the end result is a regular receipt, the business system just gives you a separate invoice and hits more of their targets.
It's not any kind of scam designed to catch a consumer out, it's just someone trying to fudge the system to meet their sales target. I used to work at Currys as a manager for the KnowHow team and worked with Business customers, and I can answer that for you.
I'll answer the return from the KnowHow perspective first. From a Business Adviser point of view, your post makes no sense. If it was a B2B purchase and if it was legitimately faulty, we'd just raise a CRN and have it replaced the next day if we had it in stock, credit your account Whichever payment method you used if it was less than a year old, one of the few actual perks of B2B.
Business returns are so much easier to deal with. Also, B2B sales generally do get heavier discounts. It sounds kind of like you haven't shared the whole story, to be honest with you. I haven't worked with a colleague who wouldn't to everything in their power to make a customer walk back out the door.
If they could return it, they'd do it in a heartbeat. Why would they fight you when they don't have to? I fucking hated every minute of it because of piss poor systems that never worked, departments that took fucking hours to get on to, manufacturers who wouldn't repair shit because of shit that didn't happen and fucking Whirlpool.
More than anything else, fuck Whirlpool. It was two weeks old, very obvious fault easily demonstrated. They knowhow desk off to the side of the tills simply refused to assist me once they noticed it was a business purchase When they looked at my receipt.
Kept pointing me to their b2b phone team. Unacceptable as an ordinary member of the public making a consumer purchase. Sorry that's what I was trying to explain but probably wasn't too clear, customer rights are still honoured internally but with items like white goods can be voided due to the usage of the item being different.
I worked at PCWorld a long time ago and there was certainly some dodgy stuff going on in order to upsell people and sell PPI and extended warrantees. Some of the sales coaches were actually really effective.
There was even an episode of "Don't get Done, Get Dom" where he got ripped off on TV and told everybody he'd saved the customer money when in actual fact the guy had paid full price and also bought a copy of Norton, a huge protector and an ethernet cable that he didn't want in the first place.
However the scam you are talking about is not something that PCWorld would condone. What is actually happening if true is that the business centre have not met their yearly targets and are trying to push sales through the business centre in order to get a better Christmas bonus.
If the staff really are doing what you say they are doing they are ripping off both the customer and also PCWorld. It might be best just to email the CEO straight off. You could phone them and just ask to speak with a member of the executive management in head office, but you might have to push as they are quite good at keeping you away.
There was even an episode of "Don't get Done, Get Dom" where he got ripped off on TV and told everybody he'd saved the customer. The norm in the UK seems to be to charge VAT anyway then claim back using the reverse charge process - but perhaps it's not being charged at all?
If no, tax fraud. If yes, does it mention "your" VAT code? If so, that business who actually has that tax code might be claiming back the VAT using the reverse charge mechanism which goes from basic tax fraud to racketeering and NCA would likely be interested.
If not - this scenario could still be happening if the PC world employee gave their mate a copy of the receipt. That's not how it works. When a business buys something it pays the VAT just like anyone else. If you're not VAT registered then you can't claim it back.
We can give our VAT number when buying too, and then won't get charged VAT on the purchase and don't have to worry about reclaiming it either. Works across the EU. Its all about them meeting some targets without regard for how they do it.
The potential criminal implications of this are much further reaching in terms of tax fraud rather than simply misleading and ripping off customers. Given it is put through as a business sale VAT is very relevant.
I mean, in my case I found out that they had put my home address and but used my employers as a business name once they casually worked out who my employer was where do you work buddy If you were charged VAT: Of course, the receipt might contain enough information to make this infeasible e.
If you were not charged VAT: No real gain for the people doing it other than making their sales targets. This would be hard to pull off to make any real money. The sales target reason looks far more plausible.
A lot of PPI claims were down to call-centre staff trying to meet targets for bonuses or just to keep working. Yeah I highly doubt it's tax fraud. HMRC have ways to find this shit out, they're seriously good at getting what is owed to them by law.
The branch that finally did my refund wanted to keep them all - I only got a "manual override" card refund receipt which was unremarkable. Didn't realise what they'd done until later. Called up and cancelled the business account.
There's also a Black Friday deal on - see the banner on this page. PC World are literally cancer. I bought a laptop from them that had a big blob of dead pixels in the centre of the screen like, at least 15 all clustered near the middle.
I took it back the same day of purchase and they refused to exchange or refund it as they didn't cover dead pixels. Then there was the time they refused to sell me an Android tablet because I didn't want to buy all the anti virus shite they were trying to upsell me.
They wouldn't sell it to me without taking an address? Bet there was a pretty fucking confused postie looking for the address I gave them. Everywhere I work has either been HP, Dell or Lenovo all of which probably do direct deals with businesses.
Actually a lot of businesses use PCWorld buisness or at least used to. A few that I can remember from when I used to work there is that we sold Dell equipment cheaper than Dell could price it on their website this has probably changed now, simply because PCWorld used to bulk buy the most popular models and store them.

As the communications and media industry moves from static appliance-based networks to software based, elastic networks, carriers will be increasingly capable of providing services and capacity on demand or based on predictive traffic patterns.
Instead of building networks for high peak periods, carriers want to spin them up dynamically to provide better network services in the right locations at lower price points. Service providers using technologies developed in ONAP and its ecosystem of capabilities can provide enterprises the ability to design their own networks as part of a richer set of service features.

Since then we have established ourselves as a presence on campus, grown into a large interdisciplinary team, and connected with multiple recipients—including a young boy in Milot, Haiti. The Developer Experience team at SendGrid is a small, but mighty force of two.
We attempt to tackle every problem that we can get our hands on. This often means that some items get left behind. At the outset, we surveyed everything that was going on in our open source libraries and we quickly realized that we needed to find a way to prioritize what we were going to work on.
Luckily, our team lives, organizationally, on the Product Management team, and we had just received a gentle nudge and training on the RICE prioritization framework. On our company blog, I wrote an article about how employing this framework, using a spreadsheet, helped us double our velocity as a team within the first sprint.
Our development velocity doubled because the most impactful things for the time spent are not always the biggest things, but the biggest things tend to attract the most attention due to their size.

Trump has humiliated world leaders with insulting and belittling language. It takes a very special kind of chutzpah systematically to assault voters, and drag them from polling booths by their hair, and then say that a low turnout invalidates the vote.
That is the shameless position being taken by the Europe wide political Establishment and its corporate media lackeys. This Guardian article illustrates a refinement to this already extreme act of intellectual dishonesty.
That ignores the, votes which were cast but physically confiscated by the police so they could not be counted. That is an incredibly high turnout, given that voters were brutalised so badly they needed formal medical treatment.

We are preparing the lawsuit now. Harder is perhaps most famous as the lawyer who represented Hulk Hogan in the litigation that brought down Gawker. He also represented Melania Trump in a defamation action against the parent company of The Daily Mail.
That case settled earlier this year. Harder also sent a cease-and-desist letter last year on behalf of Roger Ailes to New York Magazine, and in his career, he has represented many popular stars in entertainment including Reese Witherspoon and Sandra Bullock.

It also adds some warrant requirements for searches of content by law enforcement agencies, including the FBI. The solutions proposed by legislators, law enforcement, intelligence agencies, and multiple direct beneficiaries of amped-up surveillance in the wake of acts of terrorism are always the same: Both of those leaks contrast with the whistleblowing-motivated data thefts of Edward Snowden—another Booz Allen contractor—who stole [sic] his thousands of top secret files with the intention of giving them to media.
The probe was launched in after Snowden revealed mass surveillance of phone and internet data by the American and British spy agencies in the US and abroad. Russian state-sponsored hackers stole highly classified US cyber security information from the NSA in, it has been claimed.

Still, ISPs have spent every day since trying to claim that the rules somehow utterly devastated broadband sector investment, despite the fact that independent economists and journalists have repeatedly proven that to be a lie.
In that earlier post I go into much more background, but the short version is this: We thought that ruling had some serious problems, and Malamud and his organization Public. Public Citizen also filed a good brief on the importance of having access to the law.
For those of us that pay attention to copyright matters throughout the world, a story out of Iran has had us riding a strange sort of roller coaster. Late in September, the Iranian government arrested six people it says run the movie-streaming site TinyMoviez.
That site is like many others on the web, focusing on the streaming of Hollywood movies in a manner that is pretty clear-cut piracy. There are, however, no agreements on copyright between American and Iran, for obvious reasons, so the application of Iranian copyright law tends to be focused on Iranian content.
Many were left scratching their heads wondering why the arrest had been made. Posted in News Roundup at 3: I do everything I can to spread the open source word on every possible occasion. But every so often I run into an issue that I feel needs to be pointed out to the Linux community and the countless developers that make Linux possible.
I feel this is a necessary evil, in order to help Linux grow and become the best possible platform on the market. Should we consider Chrome OS a successful example of Linux on the desktop? The Google Pixelbook is the latest in a line of flagship Chrome OS laptops that are extremely nice and extremely expensive.
Boy, is it a sharp piece of hardware. The palm rest is covered in a rubbery silicon pad, which feels fantastic to rest your wrists on while typing. It also serves as a great gripping point when you fold the laptop into its various modes.
Hopefully this surface can stand up to the wear and tear of a laptop palm rest. The back has a top glass panel, just like the Pixel Phones, which serves to let wireless signals in and out. The screen has a glass cover, too, along with the trackpad.
Just like the phone, the laptop has a silver-colored metal body with a contrasting, white-colored glass back. This year, a silver body is not an option on the Pixel 2. Microsoft was not interested in giving away any secrets, of course, but I found there was a whole different system called Linux that was famous for revealing every detail of how its software operated.
The traditional local area network is connected with an Ethernet switch and Cat cables. The basic components of an Ethernetwork are network interface cards NICs, cables, and switches. NICs and switches have little status lights that tell you if there is a connection, and the speed of the connection.
Each computer needs an NIC, which connects to a switch via an Ethernet cable. Figure 1 shows a simple LAN: File systems usually stay low, both at the operating system level and in tech discussions.

One important aspect of any Internet of Things setup is being able to collect and visualize data for analysis. Seeing trends in sensor readings over time can be useful for identifying problems, and for coming up with new ways to use the data.
We wanted an easy solution for this for the c-base IoT setup. Since the c-base backstory is that of a crashed space station, using space technology for this made sense. This tutorial shows you how to install multiple Linux distributions on one USB.

In the mood for some classic gaming? They plan to fully support Linux and they even have a demo ready. I used to love Road Rash, it was an incredibly fun game on the Sega Megadrive and now the spiritual successor, Road Redemption [Steam, Official Site], is officially available.
The action game is a video game genre that focuses on physical challenges, including hand—eye coordination, anticipation, and reaction time. It is one of the hardest gaming genres to define. Given the popularity and longevity of the action game genre, developers have tinkered with the formula extensively.
The genre is therefore fairly wide as it encompasses platform games, fighting games and shooter games. Sometimes real-time strategy games are also included in the genre. Many action games share similar design mechanics.
Ready to face the Dealer again? After a little confusion, it will still support Linux. Thanks to SteamDB, we know they are at least working on it. Two days ago, a content depot for a Linux version popped up which is a good sign.
I gave in and purchased a personal copy of Space Pirates And Zombies 2 [Steam] to test out the Linux beta, turns out in runs rather well. It runs so well in fact, that the developers have decided to put the SteamOS icon on the store page to show off Linux support.
Gallium Nine does something interesting that few other Linux programs do — it re-implements a technology from Windows. In this case Gallium Nine is an open-source implementation of DirectX 9.

Convergence plays a role at different levels of the whole software stack. Last week, I have worked on focus handling and keyboard navigation. It is now possible to only use the keyboard to do everything possible with a mouse at the exception of filtering by ratings.
A very nice side effect of those modifications is that it is also quite easy to use with a touchscreen like the ones commonly found on laptops. This week that dream has finally come true. After some integration and cleanups followed by a review and more cleanups the resource has finally become part of KDE.

In many ways, both the Linux and open source communities can be seen as the foundations of internet privacy. Ever since Purism has launched its crowdfunding campaign for Librem 5 smartphone, the project has been getting overwhelming support from the Linux and open source community.
With 18 days to go, Librem 5 is expected to cross the funding goal easily. The Clips device itself figures out when something exciting is happening—happy faces, good lighting, interesting framing—and, when it thinks the time is right, it records silent video captures.
Those phones are currently oddly limited; Google says it needs a device running Android 7. A larger list of compatible handsets is presently unavailable. Google said Pixel users have reported high satisfaction with their devices.

For certain circles, Gmail has become synonymous with email, or at least with webmail.
Many appreciate its clean interface and the simple ability to access their inbox from anywhere. But Gmail is far from the only name in the game when it comes to web-based email clients. In fact, there are a number of open source alternatives available for those who want more freedom, and occasionally, a completely different approach to managing their email without relying on a desktop client.
Subutai is an open-source project and platform that lets anyone share, barter or rent computer resources to create clouds from the edge rather than centralized locations. Available devices can attach to these clouds hovering on the edge.

As a result of climate change, these ice sheets have begun to melt and shrink. Scientists believe this trend is likely to continue and will contribute to sea level rise for decades to come. Open source software attracts an ever-growing list of advocates.

Assuring the quality of medicines all the way to the consumer is a key component of the global antimicrobial resistance action plan now beginning to be implemented around the world, a panel of experts said during the recent United Nations General Assembly.
Examples are that people do not take the full course of treatment, or that they buy substandard medicines over the counter from local shops. In the question and answer period, Inoue reported on WHO efforts, saying for instance that since WHO launched its global surveillance and monitoring system for substandard or falsified medicines in, they have gathered more than 1, reports of such medicine from more than countries.
So there is now some data on clusters of medicines or categories of medicines most prone to such issues. In the six months since pharmaceutical giant Merck KGaA reformulated a thyroid hormone replacement drug distributed in France, patients there have filed dozens of lawsuits.
Hundreds of thousands signed a petition to reverse the change, and around 9, reported illnesses and side-effects, some dramatic. They complain of hair loss, cramps, weight gain, extreme fatigue, headaches, diarrhea, dizziness, memory loss, and heart palpitations.
The outcry has created a political and media blitz. Rumors and conspiracy theories have flown, including that Merck switched production of the drug to a plant in China to cut costs. The drug, which has no competition in France, is produced in Europe.
Google has made a couple of notable moves on the security front this week: One, it has patched flaws in a DNS software package known as Dnsmasq; and two, it said it would start requiring encryption for 45 top-level domains TLDs that it controls as a registrar.
Dnsmasq, an open-source package, is widely installed in desktop Linux distributions like Ubuntu, home routers and IoT devices, and provides functionality for serving DNS, DHCP, router advertisements and network boot.
Google discovered seven distinct issues within the kit: The breach potentially allowed the bad actors to profit from trades based on the information. Given recent and massive stories about data security breaches by some very, very large players in the technology and financial spaces, we have developed a mantra that you should have on repeat in your head any time you read stories about a breach: We formulated that 12 years ago and it has continually held true.
We saw it with Equifax. We saw it with Deloitte. And you will also likely recall that and were not banner years for data security at a little company called Yahoo. As Verizon began negotiating the purchase of Yahoo, that number crept into the hundreds of millions.
Eventually, Yahoo settled on a billion compromised accounts resulting from the hacks. Last year, the company disclosed that around 1 billion user accounts were affected due to the Yahoo data breach. Google just released a new open source community for developing innovative security tools called Forseti Security.
Forseti is now open to all users of the Google Cloud Platform. Google recently shared more about the creation and the idea behind Forseti. Here are some of the highlights. Attributing blame for hacking operations is difficult at best, and the lack of public scrutiny of this hack compared to public attacks like WannaCry means that attribution to the Russian government is far from certain.

This is encouraging because it suggests that efforts to reduce the heavy toll of gun deaths could work: In other words, if Kentucky reduced household gun ownership by about two-fifths just eyeballing it, it might look more like Delaware, with roughly two-thirds the rate of gun deaths.

Or, depending on how the politics shake out, they could see their entire bet go south. In the wake of the storm, that fight could go one of two ways: Advocates for Puerto Rico are making the case that the devastation means that 79 percent should be ratcheted up all the way to a full debt cancellation.
The hedge funds, meanwhile, see an opening to attack the oversight board and reclaim ownership of the process. The difference between the two? The left wants debt relief for Puerto Ricans. Many bondholders want the opposite.

Facebook previously has acknowledged that about one quarter of the 3, Russian-bought ads were targeted to specific geographic locations, without detailing the locations.

The lawsuit, filed Wednesday in Circuit Court for Baltimore City, alleges that the management company and related corporate entities have been improperly inflating payments owed by tenants by charging them late fees that are often unfounded and court fees that are not actually approved by any court.
Making matters worse, the 5 percent late fees are frequently assessed on principal that includes allegedly unpaid fees, not just the rent itself. Tenants are pressured to pay the snowballing bills with immediate threat of eviction, the suit alleges.
For consumers, there are two main options under federal bankruptcy law: Chapter 7, which wipes away most debts, or Chapter 13, which usually requires five years of payments before debts are forgiven. In most of the country, people choose Chapter 7.

When the Department of Homeland Security notified 21 states that Russian actors had targeted their elections systems in the months leading up to the presidential election, the impacted states rolled out a series of defiant statements.
Things have taken a much more sinister turn in Catalonia, without sufficient notice being paid internationally. The leader of the Catalan regional police force has been formally arraigned for sedition by the Spanish attorney general, for refusal to comply enthusiastically with the beating up of old women.
That carries a minimum jail sentence of four years. It is the first step towards major imprisonment of Catalan leaders. It is also extremely significant that this first step is aimed at decapitating the only disciplined and armed force under some measure of Catalan government control.
It is hard to take seriously anyone named after a whiskey, but we live in such a strange world that this unelected, far right and immensely corrupt, inbred buffoon could spout about democracy and accuse anyone who did not bow the knee to him of disloyalty and sedition.
That precisely prefigures the legal action taken against Major Trapero. It can only be a precursor to a Spanish attempt to impose physical control on Catalonia and imprison its leaders. Having rejected both dialogue and mediation, I see no other direction Rajoy will take.
At no stage did Timmermans acknowledge that the Spanish Guardia Civil had viciously attacked peaceful civilians of all ages. It was, in short, horrific. I am afraid to say that it left me in no doubt whatsoever that I have made the right choice in declining further to support membership of the EU.

Wall Street predicts that cable giants like Comcast will soon be cashing in on the one-two punch of rubber stamp regulators and an ongoing lack of competition in the broadband space. But can it be believed?
Also there was the business account. This was mostly useful to people who went on buisness trips and lost their laptops. My store always use to do this same thing. So there's always competition their between colleagues, putting them against each other.
Also business customers will be buying more at Christmas too, so targets are very much more achievable around Christmas time. If we're going to talk about other things like care plans extended warranties, you pretty much have to force the customer to take it saying stuff like "we'll give you first month free of monthly payment for care plan so you can have a think about it.
I want to clarify that on any transaction, including business transactions, you are entitled to the standard companies return policy. I did numerous returns and exchanges for business customers, and they were entitled to the 28 day return period; what can sometimes be the case is that the warranty on an item is annulled due to it being for business so you may not get a standard years warranty but you'll always have the 28 day return period a situation where a warranty is annulled would be white goods, I believe the majority of white goods warranty are invalid when bought through business, any other product will have the standard 1 year warranty or longer.
I should note an exchange is a lot easier as you're just swapping two products for each other so it can be done on the till. Whereas if you want a refund, a request has to be made through the business software to request a refund to the customer's card which can take days to approve and another week to go into the account.
This is usually not an issue for business customers since money isn't a huge concern so waiting a week or so to get a refund isn't a big deal, but putting normal customers into that position tends to cause a riot due to complaints the payment isn't processing enough and they need the money now.
It's also completely untrue that the colleagues in store will ignore you because you were a business transaction. I've never witnessed a B2B customer be ignored when they have an issue, if anything, I'd see more colleagues helping them.
I never once saw someone referred to a business support telephone number. Each 3in1 store has a separate business department with a business advisor, so it's bull to say that you don't get any service if you're a business customer.
With business transactions, they need to be sorted out at the store where it was originally bought as that store is the only one with hardcopy paper work of your transaction. When I did work there, I had my job role changed due to the fact I felt abysmal selling products to people as it had nothing to do with the product or how much you knew about it, it was only about what extras you could sell with it to make the store money.
Managers would always give advice on how to sell things to customers, and the amount of abusive advice as in techniques so you can manipulate the customer into buying what you pitch to them that was given to colleagues was despicable.
Man, I could go on forever about the stuff in there. Just a few more things that may help people: This is why you always see bogof or other deals when you buy cables with a TV or other device. If you bought an HDMI cable or warranty with it, then you would have a better chance of receiving a discount.
Aye definitely, you have every right to go off your head if you were put in a position that you weren't initially aware of. Online shopping is easier and cheaper anyway. This is mostly true, B2B is a sales target which colleagues would want to meet, however the CRM used for business transactions is overly-difficult to use, making it difficult for anyone who isn't computer savvy unfortunately a lot of PC World staff.
Colleagues who were experienced with using it could easily put the sale through almost as quick as a regular sale, providing the user had an account, however the process of creating an account, then totalling the sale in the business CRM, entering the product codes for every individual item in the business CRM you can't just use the scanner like the regular POS system, taking payment and then recalling the business sale through the normal POS system was difficult for anyone who hadn't practised it.
This meant a lot of colleagues tried to avoid doing business sales because they were scared of the system. Yeah this is exactly what I experienced. The process of business transactions is like how you described and is definitely complicated for anyone who isn't computer savvy and you're right, that's the majority of the staff!
There was a load of times, when I was serving a customer or doing other work, where I would get taken away to do a B2B transaction because no one knew how to do them. So I'd get stuck behind with whatever work I was doing, or the customer I was serving would then be served by a different colleague ruining the rapport I had just built with the customer.
I remember customers getting pissed off too about the speed of business transactions, complaining that they don't have time to wait around for 10 minutes to do a transaction - which I always found stupid, you're not a smart fella if you think you can walk in a retail store and walk out 3 minutes later with thousands of pounds worth of stuff, especially if you require VAT invoices etc.
I did notice colleagues not wanting to do business sales due to the system, but frankly, a lot of the time a colleague would pitch to the customer about the product and any additional addons then pass on the sale to a colleague who knew how to use the system.
That colleague could potentially spend half an hour sorting things out with the sale and the sale would still go through on the other colleague's number so they get the credit for the transaction despite doing a minimal amount of work.
My Chromebook was flagged for exploding batteries and I only found out through the news. I tried to return it, they say I need to take it up with Google. The phone line for Google is in the states and the guy was astounded when he realised I was calling from the UK.
In the end I also had to kick up a fuss in the store until they were embarrassed into a refund. I've never actually had problems since it refurbished. The Currys was always the one to watch out for. I never had a problem with the curries store beside McDonalds - if you spoke to the right staff their manager Dan was ace!
The PCWorld over the other side though has always been terrible. It has improved a little since its refurbishment, and now has plenty of hiding spots to avoid Mickey-The-Arsehole one of their laptops sales guys in the hope of grabbing literally anyone else.
I don't blame the staff, they are just doing their job apart from Mickey, its the practises they are told to follow that is shady and deceitful. The ginger manager always seemed alright in there and it looks like they've moved him into PC World now which is good.
I find most of the sales guys are useless. I have to hunt around for them rather than them approaching me. Used to work at PC world, there is no way that's an official thing, its simply sales people trying to make a sale in any way in a store with a low business sales total.
Report to head office so the manager can get a bollocking, they will not be doing it to screw with consumer rights, they are doing it to make it cheaper to make the sale easier. Occums razor people, simplest answer is a store looking for sales cause they are missing targets normally stupid targets set by higher ups.
Not to mention there doesn't seem to be any benefits to having a 'business account' at all. It does sound like they were trying to hit business targets rather than scam you, although obviously it's still completely unacceptable.
The store pretty much survives on people that don't know anything about technology. Whilst I worked there, any business issues were sent to me and I raised a CRN and had a new laptop in the store the next week, or a voucher to replace one as soon as the unit we're replacing got to Sheffield.
I recently got a Chuwi laptop from gearbest. I don't know why anyone would buy from PC world. I go to PC World and Currys to look and try their computers. Then just go online and buy it, direct from the manufacturer if possible.
PC world collected my tv for repair, refused to do the repair and sent it back 5 days later smashed to bits. They then refused to give me another until they picked it up for evidence. I took it into the store on a trolley and stamped my feet until I got a replacement.
Their "Anything Happens" cover is not insurance despite being sold like it is. So if you have a dispute the insurance Ombudsman is not involved what they say goes and fuck you customers. You can just as easily but online from pc world I wondered why in the fuck it was taking forever.
This isn't a new thing. I used to work in a couple of PC World stores. Only saw it in one of them with full on deception like that. The other store got shut down after I left probably due to low sales from being moderately honest.
I bought a computer a while back and had similar problems. You can buy better and also give you money to more deserving businesses who treat you better, give you a better price, and product. They are genuinely terrible businesses, with super pushy salespeople and absymal customer support.
Their staff are paid fuck all and driven almost always by commission so have little interest in helping you. Besides, their pricing is rarely much better than any other retailer or Amazon. And I've always got much better support from Amazon and other online places in the past, than with brick and mortar shops.
Their staff don't get a commission. They stopped it years ago. What they have now is a pooled bonus which is paid monthly. So at the end of the month if the bonus pool is low they will name and shame the colleague with the lowest figures so not only do you have to put up with your manager whining at you, you will have to deal with all your workmates being pissed with you.
The other one, is it royden lane or somethibg? The one thats just off the m5 anyway, by the big Tesco is the one I am on about. PC shops might put a fast sounding processor in your computer but every other component will be cheap garbage.
